Maha Shivaratri is one of the most important festivals of Hinduism.  On that day Lord Shiva is worshiped and the festival is celebrated.  Every year, Maha Shivratri is celebrated on Krishna Paksha Chaturdasi in Balguna month according to Hindu calendar.  This year Maha Shivratri is celebrated on 18th February (6th Masi).  Maha Shivratri holds special significance in Hinduism.  Chaturthasi tithi of each foot belongs to Lord Shiva.  However, on the day of Mahashivratri in the month of Masi, it is special to worship Lord Shiva.

Moreover, this year 2023 Pradosha Vragah and Maha Shivratri are coming at the same time.  As Pradosha Vratham falls on Saturday this time, it is also known as Shani Pradosha.  On this day, Lord Shiva is believed to bless with a male child those who fast and pray for child birth.

Those who start Maha Shivratri Fasting on 18th February will end it the next day on 19th February, Maha Shivratri Bharanam on 19th February can be completed anytime between 06.59 AM and 03.24 PM.
