Spirituality and miracles

Seshatri Parappirumma, who lived in Tiruvannamalai, performed many miracles.

Famous spiritualist Kavya Kanda Ganapathy had a spiritual doubt.

We call those who practice siddhas as siddhargal.  Siddhas are the energy that nature automatically provides when you engage in spiritual practices including chanting, meditation and penance for a long time with mental unity.  It is these siddhas that some spiritualists attribute to performing miracles.

Paramahamsa had two monks named Chandra and Girija who were his disciples for a while.  Ramakrishna Paramahamsa has said that when needed, light will emerge from their backs.  This detail has been recorded in the book ‘Researched Biography of Gurudeva’ written by Saradananda.

Paramahamsa also mentioned that once when Paramahamsa had to walk on a dark path, one of the two Chandra and Girija stood with their backs and reached their destination in the light that came out of it.

Seshatri Parappirumma, who lived in Tiruvannamalai, performed many miracles.  Many miracles performed by the Swami are recorded in the biography of Seshatri Parappirummam written by Kurumani Sastris.

One day, Seshatri Parparirummam went to the house of a grandmother who showed affection for her and said, ‘Grandma!  Do you want to see a variety of birds?  He asked with love.

‘Did you do some magic?  I see!  When the old woman said that, Parparirumma took out only one thread from her bed and put it in the grandmother’s hall.

The next moment countless birds like quail, sparrow, myna, peacock, dove, crane, parrot appeared from the thread and squealed around the hall.

After a while, he asked, ‘Did you see enough?’  Parparirummam asked her grandmother.  Patti Seshatri must have grown very mature as she showered affection on Parappirumma.

‘Enough Seshatri!  Aren’t fathers and mothers looking for these birds to see them?  Send these to their respective places!” Seshatri said, and the next moment Seshatri took apart another thread. All the birds disappeared from the scene. It is an event in the history of Seshatri Swami. There are many such events in his life.

Professor A.S.  In the book ‘Nan Kanda Periyargal’ written by Gnanasambandam, A.S.  He has recorded a strange incident.

One of the Sri Lankan Swami named Siddhayoga Swami has explained the scene seen in two different places at the same time by telling photo evidence.  He has also recorded the oddity of a Siddha Yoga Swami suddenly setting up a tea shop on a hill.

Satasiva Brahmendra, a Digambara, walked in meditation with a naked man in the temple of a Mohammedan king.  The king was enraged and cut off his hand with a sword.  Brahmendra continued walking without realizing that he had cut his hand and fell down!

Realizing that he was a great Siddha Purusha, the king ran and prostrated himself at his feet.  He shook him and brought him back to this world.  He screams that he needs to forgive himself and that he needs to reattach his severed hand so that he can be freed from the guilt of the harm he has done to him.

Brahmendra looked at him kindly and laughed.  He took the severed right arm with his left hand and reattached it to his right shoulder.  What a surprise!  Brahmandra’s Thirucharita says that the hand is folded as before.

Sirdi Baba used to wrap the thread in the packages that loved ones who brought him to eat on his own finger.  At night, he tied it between two coconut trees, lay on the thread and fell asleep blissfully!

This detail has been recorded in his book ‘Indian Renaissance Thinkers’ by the famous Tamil critic K.N.  Subramaniam.

K.S. is a writer who writes in both English and Tamil.  Venkatramani took a foreigner named Balbrandan to Paramacharya.

Balbrandon is a spiritual lover who has researched and written books on Indian spirituality.  He had boundless devotion to Indian saints.  He has mentioned in his book all the experiences that he had met in search of various saints.

‘Will he be able to teach mantra from Paramacharya Guruvai?  Paulbrandon owes that.  As the Paramacharya is the abbot he has to abide by the legal schemes of the mutt,

He also said that it is not possible for foreigners to preach.

Thiruvannamalai Ramana has also advised him to meet him as he is the uninhibited meinjnani of the mutt and he is a suitable guru to instruct Paul Brandon.

Paulbrandon emphatically disagreed with what Paramacharya said.  He was in a hurry to leave the holyland, said goodbye, after came to the restaurant where he was staying and slept soundly.

That’s when the miracle happened.  Inside the locked room, Paramacharya appeared in the air and gave a vision.

Dear!  Postpone the trip.  Mahaswami once again ordered you to see Ramana after that you can leave!

Then the vision vanished into thin air.  Paulbrandon realized that what he saw was not a dream and later went to see Ramana Maharishi and recorded this incident in his book.

Many years have passed.  One day Mahaswami was talking to his disciples.  Then a disciple directly asked Paramacharya his doubt:

Swami!  While Balbrandon sleeps inside the locked room

Did you appear out of thin air and knock him out?  Did you advise him to see Ramana? This is what Balbrandon wrote in his book.  Is all this true?’

Direct question.  What is the Swami going to say?  Did you say yes?  Like a mean little girl that I can appear like that

 Is he not proud?

But if a question comes up and you can’t get away without answering it?  Everyone was eagerly waiting for Mahaswami’s reply.

Paramacharya never told the miracle he performed.  Didn’t say no.  But after giving an answer that everyone would agree with, he got up and went away.  Hearing the answer, the disciples raised their hands and prayed.

Who else but him could give such an answer, leaving aside even his pride?  Mahaswamy’s reply was this:

That’s why I always say, when you go to sleep, think of good things!”

High level saints Never claim miracles

Not celebrating.

Famous spiritualist Kavya Kanda Ganapathy had a spiritual doubt.  Sri Rama is the one who can solve it?  But now Kavya Kanda Ganapati sighed thinking that he was not in Tiruvannamalai to meet Ramana and ask for an explanation.

The next moment Sriramana appeared in the air in front of him.  After clarifying his suspicions, the apparition vanished into thin air.  This has been recorded by Kavya Kanda Ganapathy.

A friend who had read the details told Sriramana when it happened, day, time etc. and inquired whether it happened like that.

At the time you were telling me, I felt as if something had come out of me and gone somewhere.  I don’t remember anything else.  All this happens because of his Bhakti power, and nothing to do with science and such things!  Ramanar replied.

Valluvam says that the mind is first and foremost omniscient.  This is the supreme essence of spirituality.  The aim of the spiritualist is to make the mind undefiled.

Even if you learn to control anger and get siddhis , when you fail to control your mind there is no use?  Thayumanava Swami says.  The goal of spirituality is to tame the mind.  Our mind is gradually purified over time by thinking of pure sages.

It is the sages who purify our minds by the remembrance of themselves, and beyond that the miracle they can do is nothing else.  It should be our constant prayer that the sages perform such a miracle in our minds.
