Palotsavam with 22 kinds of fruit for the Srinivasa Perumal at the Sri Vedanta Desikar Devasthanam in Mylapore. | Balotsavam with 22 types of fruits

CHENNAI: Palotsavam with 22 kinds of fruits was held for Srinivasa Perumal at Sri Vedanta Desikar Devasthanam in Mylapore yesterday.

Sri Vedanta Desikar Devasthanam, located on Kesavaperumal Sannidhi Street, Chennai, Mylapore, is an approximately 350-year-old temple. While Sri Hayagrivar was presiding over this temple along with Sri Vedanta Desikar, Srinivasa Perumal’s Sannidhi and Alarmel Mangai Thayar (Padmavathi Thayar) Sannidhi were also built. Srinivasa Perumal Sannidhi was built in 1924 by The Hindu Group.

Also, there are shrines of Rama, Lakshmi Narasimha, Ramanujar, Chakrathalwar, Andal, Alwar Acharyas, Garuda, and Hanuman in this temple. In this case, when the anniversary of Srinivasa Perumal Sannidhi was being built, for the first time in the history of this temple, a boat festival was held in the lake in Karthikeyapuram, Madipakkam.

Subsequently, the 100th-anniversary celebrations began on April 18. The inauguration ceremony was led by Srirangam Srimad Andavan Srivara Mahadesikan. In view of the 100th-anniversary celebrations, the temple administration arranges festive programs, music, dance, and lectures every month.

In this case, the Palotsavam ceremony was held yesterday for Srinivasa Perumal. At 5:00 in the evening, Sreesenainathan strolled through the streets of Mylapore with fruits. Then at 5:30, Srinivasa Perumal, along with Alamelu Mangai Thayar, arose in Vahana Mandapam and blessed the devotees.

A melodious veena concert by the renowned Nirmala Rajasekhar group took place next. At 7 o’clock, the grand Thiruvarathanam ceremony unfolded, graced by the presentation of 22 diverse fruit varieties as an offering to the revered Srinivasa Perumal. These fruits were subsequently bestowed upon the devotees as prasad.
